A better fidget

I learned a couple years back that I have ADHD. Insert a half-serious joke about RFK Jr. throwing me into the camps. Since then, I've explored fidget toys as a way to focus better during meetings or when spending some time thinking, and they've really helped.

A few months ago, I stumbled on something even better. I got back into model-making thanks to Boylei Hobby Time's diorama videos, and I've been thinking about little else since tiny plastic angerry bois came back into my life. One day, I realized that it would be easy to scrape mold lines off models instead of fidgeting, and boom—better fidget.

Doing an actual task requires just a bit more of my brain than a regular fidget, enough that I am more engaged instead of zoning out while I stim. I use a mold line scraper so I can't cut myself, and my eyes are on the screen most of the time. It's still a mindless task, so my thoughts are on the meeting, but it gives me a lot more focus.

In general, I'm a proponent of hobbies you can do with your hands and in this case, I can even do a part of the hobby in way that makes my work even better!
