Live a life worth blogging about
The title sounds a little... silly? Blogs have been around for over 20 years but something about referring to blogging as an activity feels pejorative to me. Like blogging isn't "real" writing (even though it very much is). Blogging really is just writing online in a more extended form than a toot[1], so why shouldn't it be real writing?
Anyway, I was reading Jason Kottke's Saying Goodbye to 2024, his annual wrap-up of stuff he enjoyed in the last year, and it made me wonder about how much of what I've done in the last year I would want to put in my own wrap-up post.[2]
Not a whole heck of a lot, I think. In some ways, that's a good thing. I value my privacy, and I don't want to share every detail with the world.
That said, I think there's value in living a life you want to write about, for yourself if for no one else. Substitute "journaling", "writing to a friend", or whatever you'd like in the title above. Live a life that you want to tell someone else about, then find the people you want to tell and hold onto them.
We only have a short time on spaceship Earth, and one of the great joys we get is sharing our journey with fellow travelers. Make the most of it.
