The best games of 2025, according to NPR

I can't argue with most of these picks! Hades II is my personal Game of the Year, but BALL x PIT was also spectacular. I tried Expedition 33 but it never really quite landed for me, and I got most of the way through Dragon Age: The Veilguard before getting bored. Of course, I played more Rimworld than anything else.

On the tabletop, I got to try a new game: Clank! Catacombs. I played it with a subset of my D&D group and had a blast. Almost all of us made it out, and we had a great time trying to help each other metagame our way out of the binds we found ourselves in. Plus, there are a bunch of fun organizers I can print for the game.

Over the weekend, Katie and I played Calico and had fun with that too. It's mostly cozy, but it forces you into some tough decisions and sacrifices. Not unlike when a cat is actually sitting on you and nature calls...
